Apparently being an insider means nothing when the venue is Madison Square Garden. Winning three championships on the same coast, down in Miami at least didn’t guarantee Dwyane Wade an easy way in to one of the most premium arenas across the league.

D-Wade was hosting Disney head honcho, Bob Iger on The Why. Mr. Iger, a New Yorker, gets to boast season tickets to the Knicks game behind the team bench. With a lot of envy, Wade confessed he has to resort to other ways to watch an NBA game in The Garden.

Wade agreed with Iger that the Knicks are a fun team to watch. Provided you get to watch them. “It’s hard to get tickets. I tried to get tickets last year.” And he apparently failed.

The Knicks are currently leading 2-0 in the eastern conference semis against the Pacers. Iger gets to watch them and Wade wishes he could. The only way he can, “I had to go you know to a third party to get some tickets to the Miami-Knicks.” And this is a guy who played for one of those teams.

Iger doesn’t have courtside seats but he does go to the games often enough for his kids to imitate the way they used to announce Knicks superstar, Carmelo Anthony entering the arena. D-Wade and Melo go way back. How come his old friend isn’t helping him get into MSG games? Instead, Wade is glad to know Iger is a season ticket holder so he can get him into Knicks games. Or maybe the Knicks are just salty about the Flash embarrassing them.

D-Wade may have upset the Knicks

Back in 2005, pre-championship Miami Heat was playing against the Knicks with young Wade and big man Shaquille O’Neal. D-Wade got nostalgic about this game a few months because he had hit a jumper that gave Miami a two point victory. In this game, he went 24 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds, one steal, and on block on an 8-of-15 shooting from the field in 39 minutes of playtime. This win gave Heat a 50-16 record that season. They beat the Knicks on the way to the playoffs but were eliminated from the Eastern Conference Finals.

Funny that Wade wants to watch the Knicks play now. A month ago when Chicago Sky star, Candace Parker was on the same podcast, the Chicago native said he was a huge fan of the Bulls but he refused to watch Patrick Ewing and the Knicks. “I didn’t like New York either. No, I can’t stand the Knicks,” he told Parker.

He’s definitely not made a strong case for gaining entry in MSG. But with Miami installing the Dwyane Wade statue soon, he’ll never have trouble entering the Kaseya Center.
