Former Grand Slam champion Mats Wilander has received a lot of flak for his recent comments on Andy Murray. Wilander had slammed Murray for taking the wildcard for the French Open 2020 and had said that he was giving false hope of a comeback. Nick Kyrgios has now lashed out at Wilander for this.
Earlier, Kyrgios had called Wilander out on Twitter and defended his friend Andy Murray.
“Just read what Wilander said about @andy_murray…. shut up Mats, no one cares. Muzz, just know that however long you stay, we all appreciate and enjoy your tennis and banter. Also, I’ve never watched a point of Mats Wilander.”

Russian tennis player Karen Khachanov replied to Kyrgios’ comments and asked him to show some respect to Wilander.
“Nick, come on mate..it’s too much..show some respect,” Khachanov tweeted.
Nah I’m good dude. Muzz and I respect eachother, and if someone starts talking about one of mine then I’ll come at them. I’m supposed to respect Mats? For what? Hitting a ball over the net? I don’t give my respect for that.

Ranked at a lowly number 111, Andy Murray was given a wildcard into the main draw of the French Open 2020. He played a dull match, which he lost in straight sets to Stan Wawrinka. This didn’t go down well with Mats Wilander, who felt Murray was robbing opportunities from other young players.
A lot was expected from Murray’s first-round match against Wawrinka. The last time the pair had faced each other at the French Open was back in 2017. They had played a four-hour-long marathon in the 2017 semifinals, which Wawrinka won. The match was so grueling that both the players suffered injuries and since then they have not made a Grand Slam semi-final appearance.
