World Number five, Dominic Thiem knocked out the defending champion, Alexander Zverev 7-5, 6-3 in the semifinals of ATP World Tour Finals 2019. The Austrian is through to his first-ever finals of the year-end championships and he will set up the championship clash against the debutant, Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Set One:
Dominic Thiem errored a double fault in his opening service game but managed to hold his serve to 15. The proactive, Alexander Zverev produced a quick love hold for 1-1 with three winners and an ace.

A troublesome service game for Thiem arose as Sascha ripped a forehand down the line winner to earn an opportunity to break the Austrian’s serve. With the German fending off the break chance, Thiem strived to hold at 2-1.

The errors from the Austrian prevailed and Zverev got and other chance to break his serve. However, a massive serve followed by a forehand winner scored out the break chance and he progressed for gutsy-hold on London’s court at 3-2.
Thiem’s form seemed shaky as he coughing didn’t stop, but nevertheless, World Number five, Thiem was proficient with his service games.

At 5-4, Dominic Thiem was a game away from taking the first set. He unleashed a breathtaking backhand cross-court winner and edged two points closer to the set. With Sascha producing hefty serves followed by a double-fault, the set carried on.
The Austrian, Thiem finally faced break points while Sascha was serving to stay in the set. Zverev could save one of them after Thiem netted a ball followed by a decent rally, but the other one happened to be catastrophic. Sascha’s fragile second serve was dumped on the net and Dominic Thiem held the first set 7-5.

Set Two:
The set wasn’t see-sawing until 3-2, but consecutive mistakes form Alexander Zverev gave Dominic Thiem break chances. Sascha flawed back to back shots on the volley and later, with Thiem’s relentless striking Zverev netted the ball while trying to control the it from the net. Thiem led by 4-2 in the second set.

Zverev had his chances to get back in the match and retrieve his lastest service game loss, but the Austrian produced a gutsy-hold once again in the match and moved a game closer to the finals in London at 5-2.
Maintaining that one break margin, Dominic Thiem sailed into his finals of ATP Finals 2019 by taking out the defending champion, Sascha Zverev.
