Mahendra Singh Dhoni is all set to create a buzz by showing his desire to own an IPL team of his own. It all came as a thunderbolt of a surprise when there was news in the market that MSD is in talks to purchase an IPL team franchise. Earlier this year, his former team Chennai Super Kings was banned from the IPL for two years along with the team of Rajasthan Royals by the Justice Lodha led panel of the Supreme Court. Now that he doesn’t have a team to play, it might not be amusing if he buys his own team and then plays for it !
Along with Dhoni, Kolkata based entrepreneur Sanjeev Goenka is also interested in infusing money into this sector on the advice of Saurav Ganguly, who is his co-partner in the ownership of Athletico de Kolkata. The BCCI has set the base price as Rs. 40 crores for the new team. Both Dhoni and Goenka have assured the BCCI that they have the required support of the investors for this venture.
It seems that Dhoni has the support of companies like Mittals, Videocon and JSW Steels. Out of the nine venues for which the bids will be entertained by the BCCI on 8th December, Ahmedabad, Indore and Kanpur are the prime locations to base a franchise.
