Whenever someone thinks of bodybuilding, they probably picture massive muscles, bulging veins, and sculpted physiques. While this is undoubtedly a part of the sport, there’s another aspect that is equally important and that is the mental strength of an athlete. Derek Lunsford, after losing to Hadi Choopan last year, constantly gave the signs of a strong and powerful state of mind.

Recently, in a heartfelt Instagram post, Lunsford, not only showcased his physical growth but also his spirituality. He opened up about his faith in God and how it’s shaping his perspective on success, specifically while he prepares for Mr. Olympia 2023.

Lunsford shares his word of wisdom

The 30-year-old bodybuilder believes that everything that happens in our life, whether good or bad, results from God’s plan. He shared his thoughts, saying, “Just grateful man grateful that we get to do what we love every day. All that is good comes from god that’s the thing, and when he blesses us, it’s a blessing from him it’s not something that we earned or we deserve.

 

This perspective shows his gratitude for life, which is loaded with a passion for bodybuilding. With his latest video, he tried to help others with a clear message that shows we should appreciate the things we have, the opportunity, and the ability to accomplish goals. And if someone didn’t achieve what they dreamt of, it is also God’s divine plan, trust the process.

He continued with his own example to clarify his statement, “If I ever become Mr. Olympia, it’s not because I earned it, Yeah, I might have put work in to build the physique, but it’s a blessing from him and the thing is if we don’t get what we want. It’s not because god doesn’t want to bless us it’s because he’s protecting us from something that we can’t see.” As the Mr. Olympia 2023 approaches, Lunsford had earlier revealed why he was excited for something else that was about to happen in his life.

Not just the Mr. Olympia, Lunsford has another major life event coming up 

Lunsford had taken to Instagram recently, posting a couple of pictures from his gym sessions. However, what was noticeable to the fans was his wife with a beautiful baby bump. Captioning the post, the bodybuilder wrote, “The support of my wife @jhelbell @fitwithjhel and having our baby girl coming in about 11 weeks gives me that extra gear I never knew I had.”

He considers this personal moment as something that is going to drive him towards lifting the Sandow trophy at the Mr. Olympia 2023. Lunsford had also talked about how both the events were important to him and how he was looking forward to them. “Both are getting me excited and worth a smile!” he concluded. It seems like the bodybuilder’s life is set up for some major milestones in the future and his newfound spirituality could also be a symbol of his preparation for the same.
