Former World No. 1 Boris Becker and Nick Kyrgios have recently been a part of a verbal spat. The Australian took a dig at the former German player once again on Twitter. Kyrgios tried to pinpoint the hypocrisy of Becker and said that from wanting to coach him earlier, the German had now started to hate him on Instagram. The emojis used in the tweet clearly highlight how Kyrgios was trying to mock the 52-year-old Becker.

“Strange World we live in! He’s (Boris Becker) gone from wanting to coach me, obviously for his desperate need of a pay check, to hating on my Instagram,” wrote Kyrgios on Twitter.

The two have been part of the word-war of late. Kyrgios uploaded a picture on Instagram, and Becker left a sarcastic comment on the post. This clearly offended Kyrgios and retaliated by saying that Becker would never be too influential and was simply in search of more Instagram likes.

The recent conflict between Becker and Kyrgios

The two shared have also had an exchange of words when Kyrgios criticized certain players including US Open 2020 runner-up Alexander Zverev for deciding to be a part of the Adria Tour event. His statements didn’t sit well with Becker.

The conflict began from here and Becker called Kyrgios a ‘rat’. This led to more fire and resulted in Kyrgios calling Becker a ‘doughnut’. When the US Open 2020 was going on, Becker even called Kyrgios a ‘loudspeaker’ citing his habit of always criticizing other players as a justification.

Kyrgios is known for often taking digs and passing comments on players and management. While some like this, others don’t.

When Boris Becker wanted to coach Nick Kyrgios

Given this on-going battle between the two, it is hard to imagine that Becker once expressed his desire to coach the young Australian.

“I would like to coach him,” Becker once said in an interview. “I think that would be cool, such a player who is not coachable. Whether I have to do this to me is another question, but if I just want to live my passion for tennis, he would be the hottest player,” said Becker in August 2019.

Becker, who helped Novak Djokovic win many Grand Slams, praised Kyrgios extensively a year back. He even said that he would prefer the Australian over coaching the young Alexander Zverev.

“On good days he will beat Federer, he can beat Nadal, he has defeated Djokovic. However, the consistency, the continuity, the discipline is missing. It is the job of the coach to tell him that it’s worth it – you can live it by winning – even more than before,” said Becker back then.
