Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime are the biggest hopes of Canadian tennis. Over the past two years, the two young stars have broken through barriers to make a name for themselves.

Even though Shapovalov might be marginally ahead at this time, Aliassime is one of the most discussed young players in the world. His intensity combined with his composure make him special. Overall, two players of the same age group (Shapovalov is 20 and Aliassime is 19) and the same country having such similar career trajectories is rare.

ATP Tour made a feature story on Denis Shapovalov. His contemporary Felix Auger-Aliassime revealed his thoughts on him.

What did Felix Auger-Aliassime say about Denis Shapovalov?

Aliassime was full of praise for his good friend, former doubles partner and fierce rival –

“He rose through the Rankings before me, a bit older than me, but he was always a good example of what you can do if you believe in your goals and your confidence,” Auger-Aliassime said. “He’s been a great friend overall, so I think that’s really the most important.”

Currently, the head to head record stands in favour of Denis Shapovalov with him being 2-1 ahead of Aliassime. They’ve met twice at the US Open with Shapovalov prevailing both of the times. However, there are many experts who still believe that Aliassime will become the bigger star in the longer run.

Both of them started the year on the right footing. While Aliassime had a mixed start at the ATP Cup, Shapovalov made all the right moves. In fact, he got big victories over top 10 players Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev.

However, things went awry for both at the Australian Open. While Denis Shapovalov lost to Martin Fucsovics in the first round, Aliassime lost to Ernest Gulbis in the first round. They both will be looking to get back on track once the season resumes.
