A true businessman at heart, Jerry Jones has been blessed the way Midas was: with a golden touch. He has gone on to make one of the best business decisions in his life buying the Dallas Cowboys. The eccentric NFL team owner was able to strike gold with his team even when the whole league was running a loss. Jones got extremely lucky with his decision to buy the Cowboys. However, his luck struck not just once but twice.
It was recently made public by Jones himself that he made a huge investment in something almost as big as his NFL team, which is the highest-valued team in the league. But it seems like even after more than three decades of buying the Cowboys, Jones has been striking oil in his business dealings.

While he is a very successful NFL team owner, Jones has other business ventures. In an interview with Jim Cramer, he discussed his business venture of natural gas with a company titled Comstock Resources. The leading independent natural gas producer has been another business venture of the Dallas Cowboys owner.
The company has contributed largely to his net worth and wealth. In fact, it has proven to be more lucrative than his football team. As per Forbes, Jones was able to increase his net worth from $5.2 billion to $14.8 billion. A huge contributor to this was his stake in publicly traded Comstock Resources. This, combined with his private gas outfit, Arkoma is currently worth $4.3 billion.
Jones has even gone on to claim the superiority of the gas business as compared to the Cowboys. Jones said, “The greatest wealth is in the gas. It’s much bigger than the Cowboys.” However, his story with the Cowboys is nothing small. The tale of Jones and the Dallas Cowboys is nothing short of inspiring.

Jerry Jones’ turned struggling Cowboys into NFL gold
Jones originally bought the Cowboys in 1989. Coming from a humble beginning of running supermarket stores with his family, Jones made a huge leap into buying the Dallas Cowboys. In the late 80s, Jones ended up paying a sum total of $140 million for the team. At its time, this was the biggest deal ever signed in the NFL. Interestingly, the previous owner, HR ‘Bum’ Bright had claimed that the team was bleeding a massive $1 million a month.
However, Jones turned it around and went on to lead his franchise to 2 consecutive Super Bowl wins in 1992 and 1993. Today, the Cowboys are close to a valuation of $8 million, the first franchise to reach that number. Every one of his business ventures has brought him some immense success and the Cowboys are surprisingly not the whole story. However, it remains to be seen if the Cowboys are able to go on to win a Super Bowl in 2023 and bring Jones the ultimate honor.
