Real Madrid believe they have won their battle with Manchester United for David De Gea. The La Liga giants are confident that De Gea will sign for them after having chased the Spanish goalkeeper for several months. Club president Florentino Perez is set to meet De Gea’s agent Jorge Mendes today as they close in on the deal.

Real Madrid will then make a formal approach to Manchester United to begin negotiating his fee. De Gea is with the Spanish squad preparing for Thursday’s friendly against Costa Rica in Leon.

De Gea has just 12 months left on his current deal and Real’s offer will be in the region of 35-40 million euros. This should be enough to convince Man United to sell their 24-year old stopper, particularly considering that De Gea is out of contract in a year.

In a slightly spiteful and childish angle, many believe that Real Madrid are eager to close the De Gea deal as soon as possible in order to steal some of the limelight away from FC Barcelona after the Catalans scooped a treble in 2014-15.
