The equestrian racetrack of Saratoga witnessed a steady downpour in the early hours of 7th August. The rains continued till late afternoon, forcing the New York Racing Association to spring into action. The turf conditions were already a concern, and the rainfall worsened things. The association decided to postpone the upcoming steeplechase event originally scheduled for August 9th (Wednesday). The event has been rescheduled to take place on August 16th. This, in turn, led to the original event scheduled for 16th August to be pushed further.
The association rescheduled the Grade 1 Jonathan Sheppard Steeplechase to August 23, 2023. This effectively canceled the Michael Walsh Novice Stakes scheduled for the 23rd. The New York Racing Association is taking all steps possible to eliminate all safety threats for the horses racing at Saratoga.
