After the several months-long hiatus that tennis players were on from the sport, many would expect them to be rusty. This was not the case for Naomi Osaka as she demolished Dayana Yastremska is her third-round match. After this battle, Yastremska engaged in some banter with her coach Sascha Bajin, who happens to Osaka’s former coach.

After the battle, Bajin congratulated Osaka and said that she was the better player that day. Seeing this, Yastremska jokingly replied, “I always thought I remain the best player on the court in your eyes, even if I lose.”

Instead of countering with another joke, Bajin decided to motivate his student. He said, “Of course you are, she was just better that day. We will get her next time.”

It shows great sportsman spirit that Bajin is still able to compliment Osaka despite parting ways with her. The two ended their association right after the 2019 Australian Open. This happened because Naomi didn’t want to put success over happiness. Bajin was upset about this he respected the decision all the same.

Unfortunately for the Japanese star, this move caused a massive drop in form. She lost at the early stages of many events and failed to defend the Grand Slam titles she won last year. She even lost her World No. 1 ranking, something she’ll want to get back as soon as possible.

With the coronavirus pandemic in play, Osaka wasn’t able to make a return to the top of tennis for a large part of 2020. Now with the sport back in action, she will be eyeing one of the biggest events in tennis – the US Open. She won it back in 2018 after thrashing Serena Williams in the finals. With the event starting on August 31, Naomi still has a couple of days to put in some work and show up in top form.
