Former World No. 4 Belinda Bencic was up against Russian player Daria Kasatkina in the second round of the French Open 2021. They have played against each other thrice previously. In their fourth meeting today, it was the Russian player who dominated the Swiss and won the match 6-2 6-2 in 76 minutes. 

Set 1: Daria Kasatkina sweeps past Belinda Bencic

The Russian player began the set on a positive note. Throughout the entire set, she served with accuracy and took advantage of her opponent’s weak serve.

In the third game of the set, Daria Kasatkina upped the ante and broke Belinda Bencic on her serve. She consolidated the break by holding her serve. Later, she handed her opponent the second break of the set, putting her in the driver’s seat, and helped her clinch the set.

During the set, Kasatkina won 32 points whereas Bencic won 22 points and registered nine unforced errors that caused damage. After 39 minutes into the match, Daria took the first set 6-2.

Set 2: Belinda Bencic was no match for Daria Kasatkina today 

Similar to the previous set, the Russian athlete got off to a brilliant start in the second set. She served exceedingly well and hit five aces past Bencic. Like the previous set, she broke the Swiss star on two occasions. 

Daria hit 15 winners past her opponent and committed lesser unforced errors. During the entire match, the Swiss player did not get a glimpse of a breakpoint. The second set was played out equivalently to the first set. After 37 minutes into the set, Daria Kasatkina emerged on top and claimed the set 6-2.

Daria Kasatkina will now face the winner of the match between Sorana Cirstea and Martina Trevisan. They will play in the third-round match of the French Open 2021 on Friday. It will be interesting to see who emerges victorious.
