After his triumphant North American summer, Daniil Medvedev extended his celebrations by clinching his fourth ATP title on his home turf of St. Petersburg by defeating Borna Coric, and following to that, the Russian withdrew from China Open 2019 in Beijing.
The Davis Cup team captain Igor Kunitsyn disclosed Medvedev’s future participation on the ATP Tour. “We already know Medvedev’s plan: he will not go to Beijing, now he will prepare for two weeks ahead of Shanghai. Depending on his performance there, it will be clearer where he will play next,” said Kunitsyn.

In the meantime, he will be recuperating and will be working to show up on the courts of Shanghai. After defeating Stan Wawrinka in the US Open 2019 quarterfinals, Daniil Medvedev secured his first-ever spot at the Nitto ATP Finals. “It’s amazing,” said Medvedev. “That shows what a great year I’m having, that the work I’ve been doing is paying off. But I don’t want to stop. Hopefully, I can be there as one of the favorites.”

He is the first Russian to qualify for the season finale since the five-time qualifier of ATP Finals, Nikolay Davydenko who was the champion in 2009 when the tournament was held in London for the very first time.
“He is also committed to Kremlin Cup, Vienna, Paris and ATP Finals in London. And after Shanghai, we will know if Daniil will skip one of those tournaments to have one more week off. Hopefully, he is well prepared and he does not need to do it. But I do not deny that he may not play other tournaments,” Kunitsyn continued.
