Earlier, it had transpired that Daniel Ricciardo had placed a wager with Red Bull motorsport advisor, Helmut Marko. This bet was sealed during the ‘silly season’ where Ricciardo wagered that Valtteri Bottas would be ousted from Mercedes.
Unluckily for Daniel Ricciardo, Bottas was retained and he had to pay Marko €1000.
Speaking to Motorsport.com, Daniel Ricciardo revealed, “He did win €1000. He always wants to bet more – but when he wants to bet more, you know he already knows the answer!”

“I’m not a gambling man, I don’t really bet or go to casinos. A thousand is not by choice, it’s a bit of peer pressure from Helmut.”
Later on, the tides turned in favour of Daniel Ricciardo when another bet was made between the two. This time around, it was Helmut Marko, who had to shell out the money to a gleeful Daniel Ricciardo.
The Australian continued, “We did another bet actually, I think it was in Melbourne, and I won it back. So we’re even. It was qualifying, he thought they would be top three in qualifying, and I thought they wouldn’t, and they weren’t, so I got my money back.”

Afterwards, the 29-year old confessed that he was going to stop the ‘silly’ wagers. He said, “I don’t want to bet with him anymore. But it’s OK, if our relationship is like that, it’s quite fun!”
As of now, Ricciardo and the Renault team are heading to the 4th round of the season in Baku, on the back foot. So far, Ricciardo and teammate Nico Hulkenberg have only finished in the points two out of a potential 6 times.

In fact, in Bahrain, both cars trundled to a halt within a lap of each other, close to the finish. Naturally, this left the French outfit very red-faced, and the rival, Red Bull team very smug.
