Renault driver Daniel Ricciardo has admitted that he would love to re-sign with Renault for 2021 and beyond. However, the Australian driver has stressed on the need to see the French outfit challenge for the World Championship.
Daniel Ricciardo has jumped aboard the Renault train, signing a two-year deal with the aim of uplifting them. Interestingly, Renault team principal Cyril Abiteboul revealed that the team’s intention was to field an Academy driver for 2021. Since Esteban Ocon has a contract until 2021, there is a massive Damocles sword hanging over Ricciardo’s future.
However, Daniel Ricciardo himself, has an agenda of his own, with designs on the title chase. According to the 30-year old, in an “ideal” situation he wants to be with a Renault team that is fighting for the 2021 title. However, he would “cross that bridge” if the signs were not positive.

“Ideally we move forwards and yes, I remain [with Renault], and [it is] a bit like the Red Bull thing, I felt like five years was enough time to let it try to work.
“I really wanted to win a title with Red Bull because they did get me into F1, the story would have been perfect with them.
“Now this whole move to Renault, ideally I re-sign in 2021 and that’s because things are going forward and we have a real chance, if it goes backwards for whatever reason and it doesn’t look positive, then I guess I will cross that bridge.”
