Former UFC heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier lost the rematch against Stipe Miocic in UFC 241. Not only he lost his title but also he lost his father to cancer a few days after the fight. Daniel Cormier was going through one of the toughest stages of his life while fans were waiting for the answer to the question on Cormier’s future. Is Daniel Cormier done? Or he is going to get his title back from Stipe Miocic?

Well, Daniel Cormier has decided what he wants next. Cormier wants the trilogy fight against Stipe Miocic and retire as the heavyweight champion of the world. Talking to Ariel Helwani on ESPN, Daniel Cormier said:

“So I will go fight him(Miocic) again, Win or lose I am not fighting again. This will be the only time I will ever step foot into octagon again. “

Fans were also waiting for a heavyweight clash between Cormier and his long rival Jon Jones. However, that may never happen since Cormier has decided to retire after the third fight with Miocic. Cormier claimed:

“Next one will be the last one. It has to be Stipe. No one else matters.”

Cormier’s stepfather was under treatment before one week of the fight. He was also taken to the hospital a few hours before the DC vs Miocic fight started. So Cormier was going through a lot before stepping into the octagon with one of the best heavyweights ever, Stipe Miocic. However, Cormier does not discredit Miocic achievements on the fight night. Cormier said:
“Because I don’t want to discredit Stipe in any way. I want to give that disclaimer. it’s hard whenever you are dealing with a family issue. But he won the fight. And he would have won the fight regardless.”

After the fight with Miocic, Cormier said in the interview that he did not want to decide his future without consulting his friends, coaches and family members. Well, Cormier’s wife Salina Cormier was the one who convinced DC to fight Miocic again.

” Daniel you don’t end like that. This is not how you end. She goes you lose again it’s just meant to be. For you to be fighting as you did even wit the worst fight IQ in the history of your career you managed to go that ahead point to that round you lost. You go fight your fight. If you lose even when you fight your fight we are fine. But you don’t end like that.” Said Salina.

Cormier has revealed that UFC President, Dana White has agreed to the fight and at the moment it’s Stipe Miocic who needs to decide whether he wants the fight or not. Cormier has not given any date r particular time frame for the fight.

It’s safe to say that with all the history between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic the trilogy fight is going to be the biggest in UFC heavyweight history.
