This year is set to witness the ultimate face-off for the title of ‘Game of the Year.’ On one hand, we have the futuristic open-world experience of Cyberpunk 2077. And on the other, we have a bold and beautifully ambitious ‘The Last of Us 2‘. We have seen the finished product of the latter, and as for the former, we have had a fair few glimpses of it. We have seen what TLoU2 has offered, and have got a general idea of what CP2077 has to offer. These two are arguably the biggest games of the year, and the massive success of TLoU2 does not seem to have even left a dent on the hype around Cyberpunk.

The Last of Us 2 has already received strong hatred (most of it, undeserved we think), although that hasn’t really affected the sales. But what do the people think?

The Last of Us 2 seems to have an edge over Cyberpunk 2077

To be frank, the scales do seem to be leaning towards The Last of Us 2.

Now, there is good reason to think so. The storyline is absolutely beautiful and bold, not to mention the visuals. CP2077 is a game with an entirely different taste. The neo-noir experience set in an open-world has the potential of creating a lifestyle experience with a chance of lawless gameplay, with full independence to the player to choose their own story in Night City.

Here is something that a lot of us failed to take into account. The deadline for games to be eligible for the GOTY award is November 15, meaning games released before that are eligible. However, authorities may push the deadline this time around, given the current situation.

Some are not keeping the other major games out of the equation.

So, looks like people are not ruling out Ghost of Tsushima as a worthy contender. This makes sense, given the beautiful plot and the stunning visuals the game features.

So far, TLoU2 has the masses by its side, closely followed by Cyberpunk 2077. But nothing can beat the ultimate game that the critic’s panel has to play called ‘trying not to get crushed by the intense dilemma of choosing the GOTY.’

We recommend that the critics keep their ‘Animal Crossing’ islands handy to ease the tension.

But jokes apart, games this year have been quite beautiful and all of us will, inevitably, want our favorite one to win. And maybe this time we won’t be disheartened if it loses out to any other game, because they are all worthy contenders.

Did we say jokes apart? Sorry, here’s one.
