Cyberpunk 2077 is on the verge of its grand release that was previously postponed three times in the calendar year. CD Projekt RED (CDPR) recently issued free copies for the press, which VGC also has reviewed. Their report has uncovered that performance mode, available for the Xbox Series X/S console, is missing on the Playstation 5.

Cyberpunk 2077 is running with backward compatibility on both consoles
CDPR is still working on a full next-gen upgrade for Cyberpunk 2077 that will release next year. In the meantime, the game is running on backward compatibility across both platforms, yet Xbox Series X/S has a performance mode that is missing on PS5.
Xbox Series X/S offers a performance mode that will allow the game to run at 120 fps with reduced graphics. Gamers can revert back to a high-resolution quality mode that will limit the frames to 60 fps but will offer a maximum resolution.
The same display options are missing in PS5, despite the console being capable of offering both. The missing frame rate mode seemed puzzling at first, as Playstation 5 boasts of similar, if not more powerful, hardware capabilities. However, this issue could be present because each console handles the backward compatibility in its own manner.

Rocket League and Warzone also took the same route
It turns out CDPR is not the only gaming studio that went this route. Activision and Psyonix (developers of Rocket League) also chose to release their games with the exact same performance options across both the consoles. Speaking to Eurogamer, Psyonix revealed their reasons for not including the same option for PS5.

“Our team’s main focus this year was our recent free to play transition and updating major features like our Tournaments system.
“Due to this we had to make tough decisions on what else we could achieve. Enabling 120hz on Xbox Series X|S is a minor patch, but enabling it on PS5 requires a full native port due to how backwards compatibility is implemented on the console, and unfortunately wasn’t possible due to our focus elsewhere.”

This could be the reason Triple AAA titles are not immediately looking to enable the 120 fps options on PS5. Rumors have it that CDPR is allegedly working on a patch to address this issue. It could release the patch on the day of the launch right alongside a huge update that is going to drop on Dec 10th.
