It was a monumental match between Juventus and Sampdoria for more than one reason. Veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon drew level with Paolo Maldini for all-time appearances in Serie A. However, the headlines were made by Juventus’, and arguably the sporting world’s greatest showman, Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro.

The Italian champions drew the first blood, with Paulo Dybala scoring a sumptuous goal on a volley from the corner of the penalty box. However, Sampdoria came back with Gianluca Caprari’s goal. The team pounced on some awful defensive errors made by the Juventus backline to level the tie. However the Italian forward was later dismissed, as he received his second yellow card of the match.

And then came Juventus’s saviour, Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese forward scored a “gravity-defying” goal to hand the Italian league table leaders a 2-1 win. The former Real Madrid man jumped a freaking 2.56 metres high in the air to meet a cross which might have been missed by any other player in world football. This is what makes him special, he does stuff which just can’t be replicated.

And the fans weren’t the only one to be left in awe. With even Maurizio Saari and Claudio Ranieri were at a loss of words to explain Cristiano Ronaldo‘s goal.

The former Premier League winner was quoted as saying, “When (Juventus) scored goals like this, we just have to admire them as two masterpieces. Ronaldo scored in NBA style — he was up there for an hour and a half”.

Maurizio Sarri was quoted saying, “The goals were both great, Ronaldo remained in the air for an infinite time, I think the first half was very good, similar to the level we played against Udinese (on Sunday). In the second half, it was a bit more confusing, but we didn’t take many risks.”

The current Italian champions made a three point leap over Inter Milan though Antonio Conte’s men have a game in hand.
