The cricket board of New Zealand, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) denied the claims of snatching the test cricket captaincy from Kane Williamson. The questions were raised on the captaincy of Kane Williamson after New Zealand was badly defeated by the Australians.

Many suggested having a split captaincy with Tom Latham being the test captain to reduce the burden from Kane’s shoulders. Williamson is the skipper of the New Zealand’s cricket team across all the three formats of the game. He has performed his job quite well. It was under his captaincy that the New Zealand team reached the finals of the World Cup 2019.

However, all the rumors of a change in captaincy rubbished by an NZC’s spokesperson. The spokesperson told Newshub, “There’s absolutely no truth to any suggestion Kane’s captaincy is under threat.”

Questions on leadership skills of Kane Williamson

The whitewash of New Zealand by 3-0 in the test match series against Australia, gave a rise to the rumors of a change in the captaincy in New Zealand’s team.

On Tuesday, May 19, James McOnie, The Crowd Goes Wild broadcaster, made a claim that the head coach of the national team Gary Stead prefers Tom Latham over Kane Williamson and is planning a change in the format.

James McOnie made a post on his official twitter handle regarding the same. It read, “Coup alert! Kane Williamson’s test captaincy is under threat. Apparently, coach Gary Stead favors fellow Cantabrian Tom Latham as skipper. It’d be easier on the ego to take the T20 job from Kane, to ease his workload, but that’s not the preferred plan.”

Notably, New Zealand bounced back wonderfully after the Australia debacle. The team won a 2 match test series against India earlier this year. After facing a whitewash in the T20 series by the Indian team, Williamson & Co. managed to defeat Indians in the ODI and test series.
