A furious Rishabh Pant walked off the field at Wellington following his dismissal. The lack of communication between Ajinkya Rahane and him led to his wicket falling.

Rishabh Pant’s dismissal

Ajinkya Rahane played Tim Southee?s delivery and proceeded to take a run. However, Rishabh Pant did not realise Rahane would go through with it. He left the crease but immediately took a halt. On the other hand, Rahane continued to finish his run. Amongst this miscommunication, BJ Watling tried to reach the stumps. Even though he was slightly late, Ajaz Patel ensured the ball hit the stumps.

The New Zealand pacer, Southee, believes that Pant?s dismissal did have a significant impact on India?s innings. When asked if there was any strategy he had in mind to dismiss Rahane, Southee responded saying, ?No, the run-out of Pant was a big this morning. With him (Pant) being such a dangerous player and leading into that second new-ball, he could have scored quickly along with Jinks (Rahane’s nickname).”

Not only was Rishabh Pant visibly annoyed with Rahane over this, Twitter users expressed their disappointment as well.

However, commentator Sanjay Manjrekar, pointed out Rishabh Pant played a role in his dismissal as well. He said, “Pant was trying to see where was the ball, which caused him the hesitation”. Adding to this, commentator Scott Tyris said that it is disappointing to learn that Pant does not trust his partner. Manjrekar built on this statement with his own opinion of trust. He said, ?If he had trusted his partner and just run, he would have made it. “?

India’s score for the 1st innings is 165 runs.?
