Former England captain Nasser Hussain is all praises for India’s limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma. Naseer backed Rohit as an opening batsman in Tests saying that Rohit is supremely talented and has the technique and timing to do wonders in the game. Rohit Sharma is an exceptional batsman when it comes to T20s and ODIs. However, the legend is yet to prove his capabilities in the longest format of the game.

Rohit has only played 32 test matches in his career till now. Rohit was going great in the game as he debuted as a Test opener last year. He scored three hundreds including a double ton against South Africa at home. The batsman had to miss the test series against New Zealand earlier this year due to his calf injury.

Hussain told on a chat show in Sony Ten’s Pit Stop, “If Rohit Sharma is not a Test match opener, I’ve been watching a different game... If you go and ask fellow cricketers who your favorite players are, a lot of them will say Rohit Sharma. Fellow cricketers watch Rohit Sharma and say this bloke seems to have so much time to bat.”

Nasser further advised Rohit to be careful in the starting of the innings as the game is all about the correct technique and perfect timing. “Test match cricket at the top of the order is about having time, it’s about having a technique as well. You have to cover your off stump as Virat did in England against Anderson. The way he left him outside after all his problems of the previous tour, that is a Test match cricketer”., said Hussain

He added, “And that’s the only thing Rohit has to do when he goes away from home and when he is moving around. He has to just spend half an hour and say to the bowler you can have this half-hour. I’m going to leave you, I’m going to take the slip cordon out of play.”

Rohit Sharma needs to do well in the India tour of Australia

The Indian cricket team is scheduled to play a four-match test series against Australia later this year away from home. India will also play a day-night Test at the Adelaide Oval from December 11 to December 15. The cricketer turned commentator Nasser Hussain feels that it would be the perfect time for the Indian side to find its playing XI as Australia is a good place to bat.

The former captain also advised Virat Kohli and selectors to wisely choose the team for the Australian tour as there are many fine players. He added that the team should stick by its selection and give chance to the players to showcase their talent.

Nasser Hussain concluded, “I think India needs to select well because they have so many great batsmen so it’s very easy that when Rohit doesn’t do anything for two games, Prithvi Shaw will get in, and when he doesn’t do well, someone else will get in. Select, stick by them, and give them a long run. They are very fine players and eventually, if you don’t get runs in Australia then you’ve got a problem because like I say it is a good place to bat you will find out who your Test match players are in Australia.”
