The Bollywood legend Irrfan Khan passed away on Wednesday (April 29) in Mumbai. Apart from acting, Irrfan was inclined towards the game of cricket. He was a huge cricket fan and a great admirer of the former Indian captain MS Dhoni.?

The veteran actor used to play cricket in his teenage and was picked for the BCCI?s Col. CK Nayudu Tournament (Under-23). But he let go of that opportunity owing to the financial crisis. It was after that Irrfan Khan decided to be an actor.?There have been many times when Irrfan Khan had defended his favorite cricketer, MS Dhoni. He always took stand for Mahi whenever the Indian team used to lose the match.?

Irrfan Khan tweets in support of MS Dhoni

The first time Irrfan had posted something in support of MS was in 2012. The Indian team had lost a test series against England at home. The performance of the Indian team during the third match in Kolkata was not up to mark. Defending the then Indian captain, Irrfan had tweeted, “Now they’ll find the scapegoat and that would be dhoni.”

In an interview with Telegram in 2014, Irrfan talked about his love for cricket. The legendary actor also talked about his favorite cricketers.?

Khan had revealed, ?At one point in time, I used to like Sachin (Tendulkar). Kapil (Dev) was also a favorite. (MS) Dhoni has shown some character. He has won matches for India on his own. He is a great captain,??

“There was an India-Pakistan match. I was very young. Zaheer Abbas was there. I went to take his autograph. That was the first time as I never took autographs from anybody in my life. He just looked at me? and I felt so humiliated. I felt really bad. I was a Zaheer Abbas and Imran Khan fan.”

Irrfan had also expressed his views on MS Dhoni?s decision to hand over the captaincy to Virat Kohli. MS Dhoni had quit the captaincy of the Indian team in 2017. Irrfan tweeted, “What a captain you’ve been @msdhoni! Will always remember you winning world cups almost single-handedly.”
