PCB Chief denies all rumours of Asia Cup reschedule to make room for IPL 2020
Now, there have been talks that IPL 2020 might be possible in the future if other tournaments alter their dates. One such tournament that is on the list is Asia Cup 2020. However, chief of Pakistan Cricket Board, Ehsan Mani has denied all rumours of Asia Cup being rescheduled for Indian Premier League 2020.

He says that the decision of Asia Cup is just not between India and Pakistan but other countries as well. Furthermore, the Asian Cricket Council will have to go through with the tournament. It is to raise funds for the smaller members of the ACC.

“It is important to have the Asia Cup if cricket activities resume by then because the development of Asian cricket depends on funding from the tournament. It is important for many countries who are members of the Asian Cricket Council”, Ehsan Mani says during a PCB podcast.

There have been several talks of swapping Asia Cup with IPL 2020. However, the PCB chief says that there is no saying if cricket will take place in the coming months or not. Therefore, all of these notions are applicable at the moment. On the other hand, he emphasises on the importance of Asia Cup moving forward over IPL 2020.

“But if the conditions change and we can have the Asia Cup, it must be held as earnings from it are distributed as development funds to member countries for next two years.”
The BCCI is trying to reschedule IPL 2020 towards the September window. It is during that time that Asia Cup is on the cricket calendar to commence at UAE. Therefore, only time will say how the two boards decide to resolve this conflict following the end of COVID-19.
