There are on-going speculations regarding which event between IPL 2020 and T20 World Cup should go ahead. Both of these events have been hanging by a thread following the Coronavirus outbreak. However, Michael Holding believes that if ICC decides to postpone T20 World Cup, then BCCI can use that window to organise IPL.

Michael Holding believes if T20 World Cup does not go ahead then BCCI can organise IPL 2020

Holding believes that T20 World Cup will not be postponed to make room for IPL. However, the reason why it will be put off until a later date is due to the travel restrictions. Currently, Australia is not granting entry to anyone from a foreign country. The specific date from when this rule will reverse is not known.

In this case, if T20 World Cup does not take place, BCCI has all the rights to move foreword with IPL 2020.

“I don’t think ICC is delaying the T20 World Cup because they are making space for the IPL. It’s the Australian government’s law where they are not allowing any visitors into the country before a specific date.”

But if there is no T20 World Cup, the BCCI has all rights to go ahead and organise a domestic tournament because there’s a space. If they are encroaching on other people’s tournament, you could say okay.”

The pace legend does not think that banning saliva to shine the ball will pose any practical problems

On another note, Michael Holding shared his opinion on the ban on using saliva to shine the ball. He doesn’t believe that this will pose any problem or have an actual impact on the game. The reason to shine the ball is to get a certain amount of moisture on it. This is very much possible using sweat.

However, he does believe that since players are used to using saliva, they will take some time to adjust to it. Apart from this, there will not be any practical problems.

All you need to do is to get moisture on the ball and you can get that from your sweat. You don’t have to use the usual saliva. The perspiration from your arm or your forehead will do the same job as saliva. And I’ve not heard anyone say that COVID-19 can be spread by perspiration.“

I don’t think any practical problem in banning saliva. It’s just a logistical problem of people being accustomed to do it and will have to practice not doing it.
