Former England cricketer Nick Compton recently shared an interesting incident involving the current Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Nick revealed that the entire England team tried to sledge Kohli over his love life during England’s tour of India in 2012. Compton narrated the episode of his banter with Virat Kohli. On the Edges and Sledges Cricket Podcast, Nick Compton said that Virat was not happy with him as he had a conversation with Virat’s then-girlfriend.

Compton said, “I definitely got a few words from Virat Kohli during the series. I think I bumped into his ex-girlfriend at the time before the series when out for an evening with Kevin Pietersen and myself, Yuvraj Singh … all of us were there, and she was there”

He added, “I just chatted with her and the word got back that I was speaking to her. And I don’t think Virat Kohli was very happy with that. He had a few words to say to me every time I walked out to bat. Virat was trying to say that it was his girlfriend, and she was saying that it was her ex-boyfriend. It was like, ‘Who’s got the story right here,’ you know what I mean?”

Nick Compton further revealed that the entire England team got to know about this issue and tried to get in Kohli’s head during the match to rile him up. “It was quite funny at the time, and the players in our England camp caught hold of it. We used it as a way to keep winding him up and trying to get in his head.”, said Nick.

During the conversation, Nick also praised Kohli for what he has achieved today. He named him as a world-class performer and appreciated him for his hundred during that series. Nick concluded, “But he’s a world-class performer, and he came back and scored a good hundred in the last [game in Nagpur]. And obviously his career has gone on from strength to strength. But it was a funny joke that we had throughout the series and something that I always smile about. But everything was in good faith,”

Though Kohli was in the initial phase of his career in 2012, he was set to become the next big thing in the game of cricket. Virat managed to score 188 runs in 7 innings with a century in Nagpur during the test series against England in 2012. The Indian team had faced a major setback that year as they lost the four-match series with 2-1.
