Former Indian captain and BCCI?s current president Sourav Ganguly recently revealed his feelings on India winning the 2011 World Cup in India. Sourav Ganguly is considered as one of the best captains to ever have captained the Indian cricket team. He backed a lot of young players and built a strong team under his leadership.?

India had reached the 2003 World Cup final under Ganguly’s leadership but lost the match to Australia. It was after a wait of 28 years that India had won a World Cup again in 2011. The first time, India became the World Champion was in 1983 under the leadership of Kapil Dev.?

In an online lecture of Unacademy, Ganguly praised MS Dhoni for his leadership skills and also named winning the World Cup in 2011 as the biggest moment for the Indian cricket. Ganguly said, “For me, the biggest day was when India won the World Cup in 2011. The great MS Dhoni… that shot, that six off the last ball will remain in Indian cricket history forever and what a moment it was.”

He further added, “I remember I was at the Wankhede Stadium that night. I came down from the commentary box to watch Dhoni and the team go around the ground. In 2003 the team which I was the captain lost the final to Australia. So I was so happy to see Dhoni have the opportunity to win that trophy,”

That was my biggest legacy: Sourav Ganguly

During his captaincy, Sourav Ganguly helped many youngsters in building their careers. There were many players in the 2011 World Cup winning squad who started their careers under Ganguly and went on to become the legends of the game. The former Indian captain is proud to have mentored such great players and leave his legacy in the Indian cricket.?

Ganguly revealed, “That team had seven or eight players who started their careers under me. The likes of (Virender) Sehwag, Dhoni himself, Yuvraj (Singh), Zaheer (Khan), Harbhajan Singh, Ashish Nehra. So I think that’s a legacy which I was extremely happy to leave behind as a captain. And that was my biggest legacy that I left a side which had the ability to win at home and away from home,”?
