In an Instagram live session with Manoj Tiwary, Shami recalled the 2014 New Zealand tour. Shami told Tiwary that during the second test match against New Zealand in Wellington, he out of frustration and anger bowled a bouncer to the on-strike batsman Brendon McCullum.
The two-match Test series is fondly remembered for the New Zealand captain Brendon Mccullum’s triple century. Recounting that match Shami revealed that he had a chance to send McCullum back when he was playing at 14, but Virat Kohli dropped the catch.?

MS Dhoni scolded me not bowling the last ball properly: Shami
Frustrated with McCullum’s innings, Mohammed Shami delivered a bouncer that went over Dhoni’s head for four byes. Talking about the same, Shami said, ?On that day before Lunch, another batsman edged one and he was dropped again. I ran in and bowled a bouncer in the second last ball before Lunch. The ball went over Mahi bhai?s head.”
However, this didn’t go well with MS as later confronted Shami about the same. Shami told Manoj that he lied to Mahi when asked him about that particular ball. Shami revealed, ?As we were heading towards the dressing room, Mahi Bhai came to me. He said: ?I know the catch was dropped but you should have bowled the last ball properly?. I was angry inside but I told him, ?the ball slipped out of my hands?,”

Shami further said that MS Dhoni caught his lie and scolded him with aggression for trying to fool him. Remembering his words, Shami added, ?Mahi bhai ne mujhe thode se tight language mein bola, ?Dekh beta, bohot log aaye mere saamne. Bohot log khel ke chale gaye jhut mat bol.? He said in a different way but it was with a bit of aggression. ?Bete tumhare senior hain, tumhare captain hain hum. Ye bewakoof kisi aur ko banana (Dhoni said in a strict way, I have seen a lot of players come and go, don?t lie to me. Don?t try to fool your captain)??
Later in the conversation, Mohammed Shami was all praises for the former Indian captain. He said, ?I have made my debut in all three formats under Mahi Bhai. You can only keep on learning from him, he?s such a brilliant individual,?
