The Australian player revealed how the two of them are driven by passion. This was during an interview with Harsha Bhogle on Cricbuzz.

“I can’t speak for Virat, obviously, but it’s almost like we got this thing in us when we go (out to the middle) we need to prove people wrong, prove someone wrong.”

Warner thinks that the two of them always try to better off the other on-field. This is one of the qualities that makes the two players similar.

“If you’re in that contest, and if I’m going at him for example, you’re thinking, ‘Alright, I’m going to score more runs than him, I’m going to take a quick single on him.”

Now, there are several rivalries in the cricket world that exist between national teams. On the other hand, there are numerous smaller rivalries which the fans enjoy more. This is between renowned players and the stars of individual teams.

David Warner says that while winning the match is important, it is also important that the smaller battles are won. Therefore, in a match between Australia and India, thoughts like “I have to score more than Virat” or “I have to score more runs than  Steve Smith” prevail on both ends.

“You have these little contests and that’s how you try to narrow the game in the sense that if we do these little things, we can be ahead of the game or we can be behind the game.”
