Darren Sammy has and continues to be vocal about ending racism in all fields of life, even if it’s on-field. However, recently, the West Indies player learnt the true meaning of the Indian term “Kalu” and has lost his cool.
Darren Sammy is exasperated after realising he faced racism during IPL
He took to social media to express his anger and raise his voice against causal racism. According to him, both him and Sri Lankan player Thisara Perera were referred to by the term “Kalu” by the other members of Sunrisers Hyderabad during Indian Premier League. At that point, he belief was that the term means Stallion or a strong being. However, recently he comes to know the true meaning of it and did not back down from calling out the racism.

He is actively appealing to boards and others to join the movement and support the cause to end racism
Not only has this been one of the messages by him on social media, he even appealed to ICC to make a change and support the cause to end racism. He asked ICC and the other boards to stand up to racism and make a change.
“ICC and all the other boards are you guys not seeing what’s happening to ppl like me? Are you not gonna speak against the social injustice against my kind. This is not only about America.”

On another tweet, he appealed to other members of the cricket industry to stand up for the community.

The movement #BlackLivesMatter gathered much momentum following a harsh and tragic incident in America. A police officer, Derek Chauvin, pinned down 46 year old African America, George Floyd, to the ground by kneeling on his neck. This went on for nearly nine minutes before he stopped moving.
