Cricket South Africa recently announced the resumption of cricket with their new experimental 3T series. CSA have decided to name this the Solidarity Cup.

Cricket South Africa postponed the Solidarity Cup indefinitely

The board’s initial plan was to commence the event on 27th June. However, as of 20th June they are postponing until further notice. According to report, the board conducted certain meetings with the stakeholders regarding the Solidarity Cup. Following the meetings, the board is deciding to not go ahead as per the original schedule.

The idea of the event is to resume domestic cricket in South Africa. The new 3T format will on an experimental basis. However, given that it’s new, the announcement itself generated much excitement from the audience. There was confirmation about the broadcasters of the event as well.

“The operational teams behind the Solidarity match and event partners in collaboration with Cricket South Africa, 3TCricket and SuperSport met to consider the readiness to host the event on 27th June.”

“Following this meeting, it has become clear that more work is needed in preparation including approval. A new date will be announced in due course.”

The new format received significant cheer from players and the crowd

Even though Cricket South Africa announced the event a couple of days before, it did gather momentum. Several players were looking forward to the three team tournament.

In this new format, there will be three teams of 8 players each. All three teams will face each other on the field in a single match. The team with the highest score will win the match. The captain of the three teams are AB de Villiers, Kagiso Rabada, and Quinton de Kock. All three of them have expressed that they are looking forward to cricket resuming. It’s been a while since any of the players have been to the field. So, when an opportunity arises, they will not take a step back.
