Back in 2017, Andy Murray suffered a hip injury that sidelined him from the Tour for quite a while. However, the British star managed to recover, and he is now competing again. He doesn’t seem to be playing his best tennis though, as he was knocked out in the first round of the French Open.

This has left many people wondering whether Murray will climb to the top of the sport again. American tennis legend, John McEnroe was asked to give his views on this and he said“He is about 80% of what he was moving, the question is at the moment is that 20% going to come back? Is he going to be able to dig into the corners, is he going to be able to break out of the corners as quickly as he used to? Maybe that takes time, maybe it takes six months?

“I’m not a doctor but if he stays at 80%, I don’t think you’ll see him play that much longer. But if he is in a process where the body is getting used to what it takes to go the distance, then I would think he could get back to the top ten.”

Mats Wilander on Andy Murray returning

John McEnroe clearly thinks that there is some hope left for the three-time Grand Slam champion. However, Mats Wilander doesn’t share the same opinion. He attacked the British star for taking a wild card into the French Open and he said, “I think Andy Murray needs to stop thinking of himself and start thinking about who he was. Does he have a right to be out there taking wildcards from the young players?”

Wilander’s comments must have stung Murray to some extent, and the British player will definitely want to prove himself once again.
