Cori Coco Gauff Meets Her Idol Michelle Obama

Gauff’s third-round Wimbledon match against Polona Hercog resonated the tennis followers on a Friday evening, Cori Coco Gauff was just a point away from getting eliminated and later she bounced back in an impressive manner to continued with her run at the Wimbledon Championships 2019.

The former first lady of the United States, Michelle Obama was fascinated Coco’s irresistible tennis at Wimbledon’s third round and she addressed her appreciation towards Coco Gauff via Twitter, once her match was concluded. 

Soon after her round one defeat at DC Open, Coco met her idol, Michelle Obama in the American capital, Washington DC and she was pleased to meet the former first lady. “Today I got to meet my idol, Michelle Obama. Her words and wisdom on my journey will stay with me on the court over the course of my career. She is a true inspiration. I have never arrived, I am always becoming! Thank you for your time,” Cori Coco Gauff tweeted.

Michelle Obama further expressed her thoughts about meeting Coco. “This afternoon, I was thrilled to visit with Coco Gauff,” she posted on social media. “When we talk about the potential of our young people, we often think about it as some far-off promise, years or decades away. But the truth is they have so much to offer us right now—something we all saw a few weeks ago at Wimbledon. Coco is a wonderful young woman who’s showing us that we don’t have to wait to see what the next generation can do.”

They exchanged their weapons, with Coco sharing her autographed tennis racquet with Michelle Obama and in turn, she received the memoir, Becoming from the former first lady. 

Cori Coco Gauff qualified for the main draw for the Citi Open 2019, but she landed up losing her opening round match to Zarina Diyas. While she was contesting her round one match in Washington, the grandstand was filled to the brim and every seat was taken to witness her play.

In the press conference after her round one defeat, Cori Coco Gauff mentioned about focusing on her game and working more and more on her tennis tactics. “Every loss, there’s something I learn from that, so I learned something about myself,” Gauff said. 

Apart from her singles eminence, Cori Coco Gauff is partnering a 17-year-old American, Caty McNally for the doubles event at Washington Open. The American girls are into the semifinals of the event and they will be facing a third-seeded pair.

The Delrey native, Coco Gauff singles reverie will continue at Flushing Meadows for the US Open 2019, which is set to get underway on 26th August 2019.
