Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson once again stands on shaky ground. The UFC has already postponed three events because of COVID-19. Will UFC 249 be the fourth?
John Kavanagh, the head coach of former two-division UFC champ Conor McGregor, had a few words to say. He took to Twitter to express his opinion on the pandemic and the impact it will have on the chances of UFC 249 taking place on the 19th of April, as initially scheduled.
Despite the constant reassurance from the UFC President Dana White that the fans will get to see Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson battle it out, John Kavanagh isn’t convinced. He thinks that the fight will be postponed once again.

Kavanagh said that though he thinks things will take a turn for the worse, he remains optimistic. His fears are not unfounded, as the fight has already been rescheduled on 4 prior occasions. Is it just bad luck?
John Kavanagh’s interest in the match, though strange, is not unwarranted. Conor is most likely going to fight the winner of this fight. Dana White, earlier this year, promised Conor the winner of Khabib vs Tony Ferguson. So if Conor wants that fight, Khabib and Tony will have to fight first. And this right now seems very uncertain.

This break will help Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson
Kavanagh further said that a few weeks off won’t affect this fight in any way. Khabib and Tony are both seasoned fighters. They’ve been in the sport for several years. A few weeks off might actually work in their favor.
The fighters have 2many years of consistent training for a couple of weeks to have any real effect on technique or timing. I think the only real effect is theyll come in completely injury free. No bruising, no tweaked knees, nothing. That been said I just cant see it happening 🤷♂️

Taking a few weeks off just before the match will help make sure both fighters enter the octagon at 100 percent. There will be no underlying injuries. They won’t be held back by bruises and injuries. Is the cancelation a blessing in disguise? Will both the fighters be at their absolute best and give us a spectacle that will live on with us for the decades to come?
