After a ton of speculation and dramas former interim welterweight champion, Colby Covington is going to fight for the title against the current champion, Kamaru Usman. They are scheduled to headline UFC 245 in December.?

The fight between Covington and Usman is a very intriguing one since both of them have a lot of similarities when fighting style is concerned. Both Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington rely heavily on wrestling to get the job done and both of them have equally effective striking. Usman and Covington has a few mutual opponents in their UFC career such as Rafael Dos Anjos and Damian Maia.

In a recent interview with TMZ, Woodley broke down the upcoming title fight between two of his rivals, Usman and Covington. Woodley did admit that Covington’s cardio and pressure is hard to deal with, however, he had no respect for the striking of Colby Covington:

“I think Covington has a good motor. He is in good shape. But he is not like he is good in shape because he is landing explosive powerful combinations. He is not exerting his body for a powerful shot. He actually punches like he is swinging little Ottoman cushions around.”

Although the fight between Usman and Covington is a close one, Woodley gave the edge to Usman. His reasoning was Usman is a better scrambler than Colby. I guess that is fair to say. Usman has done an impressive job against his opponents on the ground. His fight against Maia, Dos Anjos and his constant domination over Woodley proves that statement.

On the other hand, Covington does not try to take his opponents down and submit them. What he does is keep taking his opponent down and hold him there. In the fight against Lawler, Covington had Lawler on the ground for a fair amount of time. However, he did not put much effort in to advancing to any positions or to get a submission victory. So it’s fair to assume that Usman is a better grappler than Covington. Stating that Woodley said:

“But when you think about, he never has to explode like when you think about somebody doing a sprint. He is a marathon runner. I think Usman’s scrambling abilities are better than Colby’s. Anything you get to a single leg vs two leg it’s always a scramble war.”

Woodley also stated that Covington is not that big of a draw by saying:

“He(Covington) makes these claims that he is such big draw. But he has never ever held a pay per view. He never been on pay per view where he headlined it. And we have the numbers to statistically to show you are mother f***ing wrong.”

Well it seems former champion, Tyron Woodley is leaning towards the Nigerian champion at the moment in the fight between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington.
