Well, that’s a shocker. Colby Covington just stated that he might move to pro wrestling after winning the welterweight title at UFC 245. Covington made it clear that unless he gets paid handsomely he will be considering other options.
Covington claiming to move to WWE is not breaking news. He already has pro wrestling experience in Impact Wrestling. Certainly, it won’t be a difficult transition for him to pro wrestling if he decides to do so. However, why does he even want to switch to WWE when he is one of the top attractions of UFC at the moment?
Well, Covington stated that he is not happy with his payment and if he does not get a better contract after UFC 245 then this might be his last fight in UFC. Covington said:

“No, I am not happy with what I am being compensated. I am being underpaid and undervalued. UFC needs to pay up and if they don’t pay up after this fight you will probably see me in WWE. This is it. I’m putting my foot down. I am willing to retire after Saturday night and go to WWE forever and leave this stupid corrupt business behind,”.

After winning the interim welterweight title, Covington was supposed to fight for the undisputed title against Tyron Woodley. However, he had to go through a nasal surgery and was out of action for a meaningful period. Hence UFC stripped him of his title and gave Darren Till and then Kamaru Usman title opportunities. According to Covington, Dana White had promised him a title shot, but he did not hold his side of the bargain. Covington had to fight Robbie Lawler on short notice to earn the title shot which was rightfully his, to begin with after winning the interim title.

“It’s unfulfilled promises. It’s a two-way street. I would treat him good if he treats me good. But he treats me like shit. So I am not gonna treat him good and pretend like we are friends. This is a business. I am an independent contractor. I am not an employer for the UFC, the UFC is employed by the Colby Covington business.” Covington continued.
Well, you never know what Colby Covington got in his bag for the fans. It would be intriguing to see in what direction Covington goes next depending on the outcome at UFC 245.
