American teenager Coco Gauff was making headlines at the French Open 2021 after reaching the quarterfinals for the first time. However, that changed after she faced Barbora Krejcikova there in what was their first meeting. The Czech player won the match 7-6 (6), 6-3 in a match that lasted close to two hours.

Set 1: Coco Gauff chokes when it mattered most

The young American began proceedings and held serve in the opening game. She wasted no time as she broke her opponent in the next game. However, in the 5th game, the Czech international broke Coco Gauff and consolidated the break, holding serve to make it 3-3.

As the match closed in on the business end, the 17-year-old broke Barbora Krejcikova and looked poised to clinch the opening set. Unfortunately, the nerves got the better of her and she squandered her chance, as she was broken for the second time.

The opening set had to be decided in a tiebreaker. During the tiebreak, both players fought a seesaw battle and things got intense. In the end, the Czech player sealed the set 7-6 as she came out on top, winning the tiebreaker, 8-6. During the entire set, Gauff had five set points but failed to convert any.

Set 2: Barbora Krejcikova makes the most of Coco Gauff’s errors

As the second set began, the horrors of the previous set continued to haunt the American player. On the other hand, the Barbora was taking advantage of her opponent’s dip in form and broke Gauff to take a 2-0 lead.

In less than 15 minutes into the set, Barbora was up 5-0. The unforced errors kept mounting for the American player. The frustration kept increasing, which led to Gauff breaking her racquet for the very first time. On her sixth match point, the Czech player seized her opportunity and sealed the set 6-3.

The Czech player will face the winner of the match between Maria Sakkari and Iga Swiatek for a spot in the final of the French Open 2021. It will be an interesting match as both players are in good form.
