The English All-Rounder Sam Curran has been snapped up by the Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings. The three times IPL champion bought Curran for 5.5 crores after a bidding war with Delhi Capitals. The player had his base price set up at one cr. The English all-rounder became the first bowler to bag a hat-trick in IPL 2019 while playing for Kings X1 Punjab in a game against Delhi Capitals.
The English all-rounder became a household name after he had a brilliant series against India in 2018. He was the man of the match against India in the first test and saved the three lions on various occasions. The player was also named the man of the series for his brilliant all-rounder performance. Sam Curran contributed 11 wickets in the series in addition to the 272 runs in the five-match series.
The player made his IPL debut last year when he was bagged by Kings X1 Punjab for 7.2 Crores in the auctions for IPL 2019. The decision of the Punjab outfit of releasing him was especially a puzzling one as he impressed in patches in his first IPL season. The player made contributions from both bat and bowl. His best bowling figures were an impressive 4-11 against Delhi Capitals in Mohali. His quick-fire 55 in just 24 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders also caught the eyes of spectators.
Curran could provide a much-needed balance to the Chennai outfit considering the aging squad of the team. The slow nature of the Chennai pitch could prove a fortress for Curran. The variations in his bowling could make him a dangerous option at the rear end of the game. His slow bouncers and the changes in pace can make him a potent weapon for the Chennai team. The player could also prove to be a perfect partner for Dhoni in the death overs.
