Chelsea are eying up a surprise move for Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin, as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his front line.
The Blues are losing Didier Drogba this summer after the Blues icon confirmed he would not be extending his one-year contract at the club. That leaves just Diego Costa and Loic Remy remaining as the club’s two first team strikers, which has prompted speculation of Mourinho making a move for Monaco’s Radamel Falcao. However, Remy could also be on the verge of moving back to London to join West Ham United , which now means Mourino must bring in another forward, with Austin becoming a target for the Blues.
The forward has been a revelation since signing for QPR, but had his career blighted by a serious knee injury sustained during the 2013/14 campaign.
His return to action saw him lead the line for the Hoops and while he struggled to hit the ground running in England’s top league at the beginning of last season, the former Burnley man began to find his feet and was in terrific form scoring on the last day of the campaign to end the season on 18 in the top flight. He could cost around 10 to 12 million pounds for Chelsea.
Austin’s 18 goals saw him score more goals than the likes of Luis Suarez (16), Karim Benzema (15) and Oliver Giroud (15). Austin won player of Month award too for his brilliant hat trick performance. The England International will be a hot prospect this summer.
