Chelsea are all set to improve their bid to lure John Stones from Everton.

The Toffees rejected Chelsea’s £20m bid for the 21-year-old, but the Blues are confident of signing the center-back. The increased bid is expected to be a British record for a defender.

Jose Mourinho has identified Stones as the number one target this summer, and believes he could be the long term replacement of 34-year-old John Terry.

Although Stones stressed that he is happy at the Merseyside club, Everton are well aware that Chelsea might make an offer that they can’t refuse.

Stones, who is slowly making his mark at the big stage, recently stated how he plans to incorporate Rio Ferdinand and John Terry’s skills.

The Everton defender told magazine Four Four Two: “I’m trying to get that mixture. I think from last season to this season there’s been a big difference and definitely that mixture between smooth passing and tough defending is going to be a good recipe for my game.

“I’m still learning little things but I’ve definitely brought the more ‘dirty’ side into my game now which every defender needs.”

Chelsea will be looking to defend their title when Premier League begins next month.
