CHEEKU or HITMAN – Who is going to be the Indian Team Captain after MS Dhoni settles for a retirement plan? Quite evidently, the battle for the spot of skipper after MSD is stern between CHEEKU aka VIRAT KOHLI and HITMAN aka ROHIT SHARMA.
Going by the statistics, Rohit Sharma fairs better than Virat Kohli with two IPL titles already and one Champions League win in his bag. Although his batting records show a wayward trend, but still from a Captain’s point of view, Rohit seems to be the better choice. The way he has led his side to victory, this IPL season is quite remarkable and it is his aura on the field that can inspire faith in his leadership skills. Although, he has not received enough chances at the International stage, but it seems Rohit will be much more calm and confident in leading a side studded with the likes of Virat Kohli & Suresh Raina.
Now shifting the focus to Virat Kohli, probably the only possible successor of Sachin Tendulkar. One can literally term that he does show signs of aggression and confidence while leading the team, though on the other hand it can’t be denied that he does lose his calm quite often. Also his records as captain are not much impressive, though at times, he shows the spark to lead the way. He very well knows how to toil with any bowling attack in the world, but the question here is whether he is shrewd enough to be a tactical genius. Although he possesses a superior cricketing brain, but he has not received much satisfactory results as a captain.
So to sum it all, Virat Kohli might be the way to go for most of the opinion makers, but I personally have an inclination towards Rohit Sharma. Rest is destiny as to who between these two gems gets the opportunity to lead the side in ODIs and T-20s.
