CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 was clearly one of the most anticipated titles of the year. The game rolled out on December 10, but the path to its release was far from ideal.

The studio had announced the title in 2013, and fans had been patiently waiting for its release since. They’ve also sat through multiple delays to get their hands on the title that has been referred to as the finest entry in the modern decade. The game has received mixed reviews, which is rather surprising. Despite that, CD Projekt RED’s title has broken several records as the mad rush continues.

CDPR has reported that the title has sold over 13 million copies as of December 20, cementing itself as one of the most successful RPGs of all time.

This number, CD Projekt announced, covers sales across all platforms and also counts for “returns submitted by retail clients in brick-and-mortar as well as digital storefronts.”

Cyberpunk 2077 sold over 13 million copies at launch

The title was on the right path and broke several records, even before it came out on December 10. It had surpassed eight million pre-orders well ahead of its global launch.

Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad released a few numbers, indicating that 8 million pre-orders will amount to around $500 million.

Unsurprisingly, the record for launch day income is held by Rockstar Games’ GTA V, which amassed $800 million. However, this statistic also contains both pre-order and launch day sales.

Having sold 8 million copies before launch, the current number suggests that CD Projekt sold an additional 5 million copies after its launch.
