If there is one superstar whose return has shaken up the WWE audience right now, it is Matt Riddle. The ‘Original Bro’ is such a fun-loving and easy-going character that fans relate to him in an instant. In addition to that, Riddle is really great in the ring and has performed phenomenally against the likes of Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa.

But WWE was not the first combat sport that Riddle wanted to pursue, it was MMA. Everything went downhill for him when he entered the Octagon in the UFC. But, looking in hindsight, that also led to Riddle coming to WWE and enjoying his time in pro wrestling and carving out a career for himself in this industry.

While talking about various cross-sports wrestlers/fighters, Joe Rogan and Ric Flair were discussing the ones active in WWE right now on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast. They picked out Ronda Rousey and talked about her accolades in the wrestling ring, but then they pointed out Matt Riddle.

Rogan said, “Matt Riddle, Riddle’s another guy who went from MMA to WWE and he’s thriving. He kinda got fu**ed over. He tested positive for weed and that’s how he got kicked out of the UFC.

Being kicked out of a company can be seriously damaging to one’s career but luckily for him, WWE was just looking for MMA fighters to join their ranks. Riddle hopped onto the NXT brand and evolved into the ‘Bro’ character which resonated well with the crowd. His chill style of promos and connecting with the audience led to the man eventually moving up the ladder to the main roster.

When he first arrived, Riddle was quick to be left in the swarm of NXT call-ups. But he figured out a way to get out of it. On a random episode of Raw, Riddle performed the RKO, and this fueled Randy Orton. What looked like a feud brewing up turned into one of the most entertaining tag teams during the Thunderdome era.

While Orton helped Riddle get his footing in the company, he is also harming him in the long run. As Booker T pointed out, the ‘Bro’ needs to up his game if he doesn’t want to be relegated to being a copycat Orton. So, we might be on the precipice of seeing a change in Riddle’s character in a few weeks. Also since Orton is out of action, Riddle may have the chance to excel and show what he can do on the main roster without his tag team partner.
