UFC 100 took place 14 years ago with a viewership of 1.6 million. At the time of airing, it was the most bought UFC PPV. This record would not break until UFC 202. People remember the event for the main title match and the post-main event speech by Champion Brock Lesnar. It is still one of the most explosive interviews in UFC history.
The show’s main event was the title bout between UFC Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and interim Heavyweight champion Frank Mir. This was the second encounter between Mir and Lesnar, and this got ugly. So, ugly that post-match, Lesnar took the mic from Joe Rogan and went off on a passionate rant. But was it all staged?

Brock Lesnar says the UFC 100 speech was a PR stunt
Lesnar won the match via TKO and gave a rousing speech. Forming loving the booing the arena was giving him to promoting his favorite drink, he even spoke about loving his wife later in the night. This was right after the match. But seven years later, at the UFC 200 press-met, he had something different to say.?“That was all made up sh*t! We only did that for publicity.”
These were the words that ‘The Beast’ said with a smirk to the reporters. This cleared the air around what he meant that night. Lesnar also denied ever watching the post-match interview. However, for the nearly 11,000 in attendance at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas back in 2009, for UFC 100, it all looked natural. Lesnar had flipped off the fans and insulted the event’s sponsors and his opponent. Now we know it was planned between Lesnar and Dana White. Remember the time when Lesnar didn’t want anything to do with him?

The reason why it did not feel staged was this was the rematch between Lesnar and Mir. The first match between the two was at UFC 81. This was Lesnar’s debut UFC fight and second overall MMA fight post-WWE. Lesnar being green, made a rookie mistake and ended up in a kneebar hold resulting in his submission. Post the match; Mir even made fun of Lesnar’s WWE history. This made Lesnar furious going into UFC 100.?
The post-match interview went viral, and Lesnar apologized
The feud between Mir and Lesnar had a good build-up. Once the two got in the octagon, Lesnar brutalized Mir. Joe Rogan said during the post-match interview Lesnar looked upset from the get-go, which Lesnar confirmed. But once Lesnar won the match, and his arm was lifted with the belt around his waist, he changed.?

A new energy filled Lesnar, and he went on with one of the most passionate, in-the-moment, candid interview anyone had ever seen. Even Rogan was in shock, listening to Lesnar not hold anything back. That moment of raw anger and passion is now part of the history books that is the UFC, but sadly, it was just for publicity.
This publicity was heightened when Lesnar apologized for the outburst. During a media interview, he claimed that he had to suffer White’s wrath after the event. He went on to say that he was a sore loser and held no personal grudges against Mir. Furthermore, Lesner blamed being amped up after the match for his outburst.?
