Ronda Rousey’s Ex-Boyfriend & Former UFC Fighter Believes He Could “Beat” Brock Lesnar in MMA: “His Striking Was Really Bad”

Brock Lesnar is arguably one of the most fierce competitors in the pro wrestling industry. No doubt that! Over the years, he has established himself as one of the top names in the business. Legendary pro wrestling commentator Jim Ross had three words that defined the Beast Incarnate—”that big, that quick, that agile.” It couldn’t have rung more true for UFC President Dana White.

In his brief stint spanning just eight fights in the Octagon, his 2008 UFC debut against Frank Mir was recently brought under the microscope. Although he lost against Mir, he made a huge comeback and ultimately won the Heavyweight Championship. Recently, Lesnar’s UFC stint came under scrutiny once again, all credits to a former UFC fighter.

Ronda Rousey’s ex-boyfriend apprehensive about Brock Lesnar’s striking

Brock Lesnar has always been an intimidating opponent, due to his physique and fighting skills. However, Ronda Rousey’s ex-boyfriend Brendan Schaub believed that he could have defeated Lesnar in MMA.

While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Schaub said, “I would like to think that I would beat him. His striking was really bad but he beat my training partner Shane Carwin.”

Schaub further continued, “He fought Frank Mir in the UFC early in his career. He came back and beat him. He fought Randy Couture, like he didn’t have much experience at all. He didn’t have a lot of training.”

Schaub stated that he was coming in fresh off a victory against Nogueira, and could have easily defeated Lesnar as well. However, Brendan Schaub and Brock Lesnar never faced each other in the UFC.

Lesnar returned to WWE in 2012, and Schaub retired from MMA in 2014. The former would return to UFC for brief stints before finally retiring in 2018. In 2016, Lesnar even bagged a whopping $2.25 million for his Mark Hunt fight, following an unanimous decision win in the co-main event. However, he had to pay $250,000 for the failed drug tests.

Nevertheless, it would be pertinent to ask whether Lesnar did actually have a future in the UFC.

Did Brock Lesnar have a future in the UFC?

Brock Lesnar left the UFC in 2012, during his prime. After a string of losses, Lesnar found it better to continue his career in the scripted world of WWE. Although Lesnar began his career in the UFC as a money-making machine, he believed the losses would tarnish his reputation, and thus believed switching careers would help him. It seems like he may have made the right choice.

Lesnar would rise to the top in WWE during his second stint at the company. Currently, at 46 years, Brock Lesnar is one of the highest-paid athletes on the roster despite the promotion not being a full-time commitment.

It was rumored that Lesnar wasn’t a fan of the ESPN business model with the UFC. Shortly after, Dana White confirmed that Lesnar had struck a better deal with WWE and flexible dates.
