There are a handful of WWE stars who have their fair share of achievements in the octagon. If we make a list, Brock Lesnar probably comes at the top. The massive WWE superstar was equally fierce, if not more, during his UFC run. The former UFC heavyweight champion had his last fight in 2016 against Mark Hunt.

One of Lesnar’s arch-rivals in the UFC was Cain Velasquez. They headlined UFC 121 with Velasquez knocking Lesnar down to clinch the coveted heavyweight championship title. While the duo has impressive chemistry within the UFC octagon, their WWE match came out as a big flop.

Back in 2019, Vince McMahon had his plan to re-spark Lesnar and Velasquez’s deep-rooted rivalry after signing the latter to the promotion following his UFC retirement. During a SmackDown episode, WWE creative teased a feud between two former rivals which led to the Crown Jewel event where Velasquez lost to Lesnar on his official WWE debut. The match was also largely disappointing due to Velasquez’s inexperience in the WWE ring.

Ric Flair referred to Lesnar vs Velasquez’s infamous WWE match to point out McMahon’s faulty plan

Cain Velasquez later said he was new to the wrestling ring and hence left a bit uncomfortable while facing Lesnar. But according to WWE veteran, Ric Flair, it was nothing but a futile attempt by Vince. The two-time Hall of Famer recently sat with UFC commentator Joe Rogan and American comedian Tony Hinchcliffe on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast to discuss a lot of topics ranging from UFC, WWE, his personal controversies, and a lot more.

Reflecting on that infamous match between Cain and Lesnar, Flair noted, ‘They just messed that whole thing up tremendously. It was crazy. They tried to make a fake actual fight. It was just a nightmare..They tried to make it like that this is the guy that beat Brock in the UFC so he is gonna come here, so put a warning on him. But Brock’s such a freak athlete likewell rounded, even though Cain’s great. you have to be larger than life. You have to entertain. And he was more of like just a stoic fighter. They were doing low late kicks, which again you know ain’t flying in WWE, right? It’s boring. In the UFC, it’s unbelievable when you get a crack and it’s real.’

While terming the match as a complete failure, Flair acknowledged Cain’s incredible wrestling skill, saying, ‘Cain does like crazy Lucha Libre pro wrestling too, where he jumps up on the air and scissors someone’s leg and flips over. He can do all that s**t, too.’

UFC heavyweight champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones recently revealed his dreamt opponent’s name, and it’s none other than the massive 265 lb star Brock Lesnar. Jones tried to fight Lesnar earlier, but couldn’t succeed. He called out Lesnar and warned him that it wouldn’t be pleasing for him to receive defeat at the hands of someone 40 pounds lighter than him during UFC 214 in 2017.

Years passed, but Jones didn’t move from his stance and still wishes to face Lesnar inside the octagon.
