It would be an honor for any company to have Dwayne Johnson on the show. Whether it is a ribbon-cutting ceremony or a huge announcement, Johnson’s going to get the most eyes on the product. While Dana White remembered it four years ago, he seems to have forgotten all about it this year.
For a massive responsibility on UFC 291, White is snubbing Johnson in favor of a retired UFC legend. The most interesting part is the relationship between this UFC legend and Johnson.

On the 29th of July, at UFC 291, White scheduled a match between Dustin Poirier vs. Justin Gaethje for the BMF title. Being the person to hand over the title to the first winner of the title, it would make sense for Dwayne Johnson to make an appearance at this event. But the former BMF champion has already claimed that spot for himself.
In an MMA Junkie interview, when asked about the bout, Jorge Masvidal said, “It should only be me and me alone. It should be me giving it to the winner of that, and the winner of that giving it to the winner [of the next fight], and so on and so on. That’s the tradition, right?” Soon after, White agreed to this in the post-UFC 290 interview. So, Masvidal’s position in the UFC 291 event is confirmed.
To be clear, there is no tradition in the UFC about the title. But the striking thing is that neither Masvidal nor White addressed Johnson’s part in the BMF title. Despite the crowd going bonkers for his appearance last time, Johnson wasn’t even mentioned. Maybe he didn’t have time with his busy schedule. But it might be a good thing given the controversies that UFC and Johnson’s last collaboration has gotten into.

Dwayne Johnson’s partnership with UFC which is riddled with controversies
For the uninitiated, The Rock and UFC launched their co-branded footwear, Project Rock x UFC BSR 2 and Project Slides. After their launch, on the UFC 279 event, UFC fighter Nate Diaz tore the shoes in the interview section of the event, which quickly went viral.
To add salt to the wound, Diaz also mentioned that the shoes sucked. Also, he mentioned that UFC had forced the fighters to wear the shoes, and this also got flak as they did not pay the fighters for the sponsorship. Following that, an adult movie star, Kendra Lust, also came out and said that the shoes sucked.
