Cody Rhodes kicked off tonight’s NXT and dropped a couple of bombs inside the ring. Within moments of entering the ring, he made a major announcement related to his father’s legacy. Good news, folks! The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic is coming back to NXT.

But that’s not it. Rhodes made other special announcements and let the fans know he would also be carrying his father’s legacy for tonight’s special night.

Tonight’s night got even more special, as Rhodes announced he would be managing the night as the one-night General Manager of the show. He also revealed that in addition to the Women’s Breakout tournament, there is going to be a 2023 Breakout tournament for the men’s division.

Already so much and the show has just begun. Wonder how many surprises the Stamford-based promotion has planned for tonight. As Rhodes proceeded with his announcements, Ilja Dragunov made an appearance. He walked up to the ring and confronted Rhodes.

A few moments later, Rhodes declared a surprise title match for the night. And guess who was one of the wrestlers to compete in the match?

After Dragunov made his entrance, he shared a few pleasant moments with Rhodes inside the middle of the ring, praising the General Manager of the night. After a couple of minutes, Dominik Mysterio, alongside his Mami Rhea Ripley, made their presence known.

As always, The Judgment Day members demean Rhodes and Dragunov. Then Mysterio fired off some more shots at Dragunov and challenged him for his NXT Championship. While he challenged Dragunov for his title, he was unwilling to put his own North American Championship on the line.

Rhodes was the General Manager for the night, so he possessed the power to make the match official and he did. But also put a condition forward while making the match official for the night. He appointed LA Knight as the special guest referee match.

Rhodes is aware of the nasty techniques The Judgment Day uses to tip the scales in their favor during the match. Thus, appointing Knight as the special guest referee was a wise decision on his part. Knight, as a special guest referee, will surely be extra vigilant to not let any outer interference disturb the match.
