“That’s a Damn Promo”: The Undertaker Changes Profession & Takes the Internet by Storm With Texas Longhorns Hype Video

When it comes to cutting promos, few reach the intensity and passion of that of The Undertaker. Being in the business of scaring his opponents, the WWE Hall of Famer has perfected the recipe of cutting promos. This works outside the WWE, as the Texas Longhorns dropped their hype promo video ahead of their big game. The video took the internet by storm, featuring a familiar face and voice.

Being a native of Houston, Texas, Mark William Calaway was always a Texas Longhorns fan, and this hype video shows off his skills in cutting promos.

Apart from the WWE, The Undertaker has not been seen promoting many other sports unless the WWE was involved somehow. But now, with his retirement from the company, he’s free to venture into promoting his hometown team. Less than 24 hours before The Alabama Crimson Tide squared off against the Texas Longhorns in NFL at the Bryant-Denny Stadium and in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, The Deadman dropped an insane promo.

The highly anticipated game has emotions running high, and the hype video featuring Taker, who has been a longtime fan, is the cherry on the cake. While WWE may not get to see The Deadman wrestle again, watching him in his Big Evil gimmick alive in the promo is great for fans.

Taking to social media, The Undertaker’s wife, Michelle McCool-Calaway, posted the promo with a caption, “I’m a Seminole tried & true, but sometimes (just sometimes), something like this makes me hyped enough to slightly cheer on my husbands favorite team!” The video is an excellent package showing off the team with splices of The Deadman being himself sporting a Texas T-shirt. 

While with the WWE, The Undertaker rarely broke kayfabe and stayed in character. Now retired, his social media presence has increased. Fans have seen him in ways never seen before. Since the drop of the hype video, fans have been going wild with hype for the upcoming match.

Regarding promo work, we all know and love Taker for the work in the WWE. Apart from pre-shot promo footage, seeing him in a commercial was rare. However, before the Superbowl season in February, The Undertaker appeared in a commercial with Hollywood star Kevin Hart. Seeing the Undertaker in this form is not usual, but it was a fun commercial. Watching the hype video package, WWE and Longhorn fans were excited and shared their thoughts on it.

With The Undertaker now retired from in-ring work but still appearing in WWE programming, fans are still excited to see what The Deadman will do. The last appearance by Taker was in his Big Evil gimmick to aid the late Bray Wyatt before his untimely passing.
