Dwayne Johnson has tremendous influence in the world of contact sports. Before becoming a wrestling icon, ‘The Rock’ pursued a career in American football. But unfortunately, due to a series of injuries, he chose another path. At present, Johnson is the owner of XFL, an alternative football league, and has been taking it to new heights. Following XFL’s merger with USFL, another pertinent question has emerged, there were rumblings that the franchise would acquire a bonafide star in the San Francisco 49ers’ former quarterback, Colin Kaepernick.

Colin Kaepernick was last seen on the field back in 2016 and hasn’t participated since then. Johnson has shed some light on what happened when his team wanted Kaepernick to be a part of XFL following the merger.

He said, “We met with Kap and his agents (whom I like a lot) earlier this year. Good meeting, looked to create an opportunity for him but I don’t think it’ll happen. We’ll see”. This bitter-sweet reply declared that the 35-year-old quarterback’s return to football is still in the shadows, but there is still some hope as the Hollywood star is trying to get him on board. The off-season looks different for Kaepernick. The star who became a father a few months ago has kept himself busy. He is involved in various media projects, owns a publication house, and also started the “The Coin Kaepernick Foundation”. This non-profit organization aims at the betterment of black and brown youths. Along with that, he penned down a book along with Eve L. Ewing, titled “Colin Kaepernick: Change the Game”. He was also at the forefront of a Netflix autobiographical series, “Colin in Black & White”. The series depicted his journey from a high school kid to an NFL star and then an activist. The series came out in October 2021.

He started his professional football career back in 2011 with the San Francisco team. However, it came to a halt in 2016 when he decided to kneel during the national anthem. This was in protest against the incidences involving police brutality and racial injustice which occurred in the same year. Since then, he has not been a part of the NFL and has turned to activism and advocating issues related to social justice.
